History
The traditional Castilian orchard is a small intensive cultivation. It originates from the traditional European small garden, generally dedicated to family consumption or local trade.
It is representative of the northern Mediterranean cultures (Greek, Roman, and Barbarian) and southern ones (Egyptian, Mesopotamian, and later Muslim) as the Roman type known as the “giardino dei semplici,” or small domestic garden.
